Joss Whedon Gives Some Insight Into Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Characters

This story which was first mentioned around a week to a couple of weeks ago is rapidly becoming one of the most talked about within the industry. When the news first broke, Joss Whedon came right out and said he has planned to include the two characters in the script for the next Avengers film. Now for your average Marvel admirer like myself, who enjoys the films but has no clue whatsoever when it comes to the comics and lesser known characters such as these two; this isn't the biggest news. But for the 'fan boys' this is gigantic news, two characters that they have been waiting to be portrayed on the screen for some time now. With the X-Men Days of Future Past news revealed on the weekend that Evan Peters will be playing the same character but a different incarnation in Bryan Singer's next film, things became extremely strange.

With this little snippet of news, Joss Whedon gives a little more details about the two characters' abilities and hints of the roles they may have in the upcoming Avengers film. This is perfect for someone like myself as I really have never heard of these characters until Whedon came out and revealed his intentions for them. As for the powers that these two have, I don't really know what to make of it as of yet. I don't have a particular problem with it, but I'm not sure whether it will certify a fitting place in an Avengers film. There are plenty of other characters they could have choose to become a part of the team but the distinct choice of these two does seem a little odd.

That is of course my initial reaction but the more I think about it, I am glad that they are looking to spice things up. Whedon is obviously trying to bring new attractions to Avengers 2 by including these two characters and that at least is something I can admire. I believe he will be able to somewhat ground them within this reality he has presented in the other Avengers film and that they will be able to perfectly fit in. I'm sure I was not the only one who was somewhat skeptical when first reading this article though, the powers that certainly Scarlet Witch possesses doesn't come across as a character that would be the particular first choice addition when creating a sequel to the highest grossing super hero film of all time.

The main problem I have with the choice of Quicksilver like many, is that two of them will co-exist in two different realities within two different franchises. This will all become unbelievably confusing when the two films are released and the fact that it won't be the same actor playing both characters will add to this. This is of course all down to legal issues, who owns the character etc which begs the question, why didn't Marvel just decide to use a different character knowing full well that they couldn't use Quicksilver fully because Fox owns the rights to him? For whatever reason, it seems Whedon has had his mind set on this character being included which at this point off the back of the success of The Avengers, the studio is willing to grant him any wish he commands.
